What WIP Notes accesses
WIP Notes reads and writes a single SQLite database file stored in your Mac's application support directory (~/Library/Application Support/WIP Notes/). That file contains your notebooks and notes. The app accesses nothing else on your system.
There is no sync service, no iCloud integration, no backup destination, and no remote storage of any kind. Your notes are a file on your drive — readable only by you, on your machine.
Using WIP Notes with AI assistants
The optional WIP Notes MCP server runs entirely on your Mac — there is no hosted component, no cloud relay, and no remote service of any kind. It is a local process that bridges your AI desktop app directly to your local database. When connected, the AI client reads from your drive the same way WIP Notes does. Nothing leaves your machine on WIP Notes' behalf.
What you choose to share with an AI assistant during a conversation is subject to that provider's own privacy policy. The MCP server only exposes what you ask it to — you remain in control of what the AI can see. If you disconnect it, access reverts immediately.
Purchases
WIP Notes is sold through Lemon Squeezy, which handles payment processing and license delivery. WIP Notes does not collect, process, or store your payment card details. Purchase and payment data is governed entirely by Lemon Squeezy's privacy policy.
